Tsurugi Hijiri is a a member of the Knights of Light and the leader of the Tsurugi Hijiri Platoon. He is one of the strongest Exorcists with him having the Cross Paladin rank.
He was the main antagonist of the Jack Joe Arc but became an ally to the main cast later on.
Appearance[]
Hijiri is a tall man with long white hair, light-colored eyes and two piercings on his bottom lip. He wears casual business clothes with his top buttons being unfastened, revealing his cross-shaped tattoo on his neck.[1] The tattoo is revealed to descend on his chest with the form of a Sun. He also has a cross-shaped crest xr-cism tattoo on each forearm.[2]
Personality[]
Hijiri is described by his colleagues as a workaholic and so he takes his job as an exorcist very seriously and is willing to eliminate anyone who stands in his way of exorcising demons.[3][4] He is also very confident in his abilities and seems to enjoy battling strong opponents.[5][6][7]
Relationships[]
Tenma Sakaki[]
Hijiri seems to respect Tenma due to his former status as a Cross Paladin, enough to stop pursuing Kiyoshi Harai once Tenma asked him to stop.[8] They worked together as Exorcists seven years ago.
Plot[]
Jack Joe Arc[]
Tsurugi Hijiri made his debut in the Jack Joe Arc while being on a patrol with Sosuke Hitsugi trying to hunt down Jack Joe. Tsurugi and Sosuke were trying to kill Jack Joe despite him not causing any harm and Nehan Sanzugawa begging them to stop; Tsurugi acts arrogant towards Nehan and denies him. Even when Nehan tried to save Jack Joe Tsurugi stomped him into the ground despite him being a High School Student with no Exorcism Abilities. When Jack Joe saw that he goes into his Demon Lord Form and tries to fight Tsurugi; Tsurugi seemingly happy that he can finish of Jack Joe now. Before being able to fully fight him Kiyoshi Harai stops the two. Tsurugi has heard about Kiyoshi before but in his eyes he turned out to be a disappointment due to wanting to help the Demon Lord; Tsurugi threatened to kill him if he stands in his way. The second after that Jack Joe tried fighting Tsurugi again but Tsurugi dominated the fight. When Nehan tried to calm Jack Joe down Tsurugi was ready to kill both of them but Kiyoshi stopped them.

Tsurugi questions why Kiyoshi wouldn't use his Exorcism Techniques and says that he isn't needed, about to kill him. When Jack Joe saved Kiyoshi and got serious Tsurugi was finally excited but before they could fight Tenma Sakaki stopped their fight. Due to his respect towards Sakaki he decides to leave with Sosuke saying this was a one time thing.
Grand Cross Assessment Test Arc[]
Tsurugi is seen having completed a mission together with Sosuke, Karuta & Matagi. Tsurugi says their only concern is exorcising demons and they should treat all jobs equally when Matagi questioned if it was necessary to send all four of them. When Sosuke was about to leave for the GC Test Tsurugi was just staring at him
Demon Lord Surface Expedition Arc[]
Tsurugi is seen when Sakaki mentioned that he gathered allies which he can trust to fight off the upcoming Black Parade with.
Goma Hot Spring Arc[]
When Kiyoshi, Nehan & Jack Joe were exploring the Goma Hot Springs they ran into Tsurugi with Tsurugi telling them they shouldn't run around here. Tsurugi and the other members of the Tsurugi Hijiri Platoon were there to train for the upcoming Black Parade; with Tsurugi and Sosuke facing off against Kiyoshi & Sakaki in a Precept Power Ping Pong Match.

While playing against the two Tsurugi keeps up with Sakaki and gives Sosuke advices. Later Tsurugi and Sosuke were seen having won against Kiyoshi & Sakaki. Later when Tsurugi was outside alone Nehan & Jack Joe approached him saying that they need to talk. After that Tsurugi and the other Knight of Lights members were discussing the upcoming Black Parade with Sakaki. When the Tsurugi Hijiri Platoon was about to leave Nehan & Jack Joe can be seen bowing in front of him.

Abilities[]
As a Cross Paladin, Hijiri is one of the five strongest exorcists in the entire world.[9] He is capable of fighting on par with Jack Joe, one of the top demon lords.[10]
Enhanced Speed: Hijiri is fast enough to land a devastating attack on Jack Joe before the demon lord could even react.[11]
Enhanced Durability: Hijiri is an incredibly resilient combatant, as shown when he shrugs off a direct hit to the face from Jack Joe, receiving only a slight injury.[12] He also remained completely unharmed after being struck by a powerful energy attack from the demon lord.[13]
